Flying Lizard Mosport Preview

August 21, 2008 -- Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada -- Flying Lizard is in Canada this week for the eighth round of the American Le Mans Series season: the Grand Prix of Mosport, to be held on Sunday, August 24. The fast, 2.459-mile course, located in the rolling hills of southwestern Ontario, is one of the most challenging tracks on the ALMS circuit. The team tested here earlier this week and No. 46 driver Patrick Pilet had his first experience on the track. "Mosport is a very difficult track. It is fast and definitely takes some time to learn. It's a lot of fun to drive but it's tough to be confident here because of the high speed turns - many of which are fifth and fourth gear turns - and the complexity. I'm really looking forward to the race. The pressure is on --it's a critical point in the championship for all of the drivers and teams and you should see some exciting racing this weekend."

Joining Pilet in the No. 46 Porsche is his teammate Johannes van Overbeek. The duo is currently third in the ALMS GT2 drivers' championship. In the No. 44 Porsche, Lonnie Pechnik will drive with Seth Neiman. Joerg Bergmeister and Wolf Henzler are in the No. 45. Bergmeister and Henzler are leading the ALMS GT2 drivers' championship - seven points ahead of ahead of Dominik Farnbacher and Dirk Mueller in the No. 71 Tafel Racing Ferrari. The team is also leading in the ALMS GT2 team championship - 18 points ahead of Tafel Racing. Mosport is a 2-hour and 45-minute race, so there are 20 points available for a first-place finish.

Thomas Blam, Flying Lizard chief strategist, commented on the race, "We're back to our standard 2-hour and 45-minute event. It should be a two-stop race if all goes as planned. For as fast and challenging as Mosport is, we usually see few cautions here. But at our last race at Road America there were more cautions than we'd ever seen at that track: hopefully this is not a trend! I expect Sunday's race to be a tough one. Everyone is pushing hard for the championship and with high level of competition in the prototype classes, managing traffic is going to be an issue. In GT2, Ferrari showed tremendous pace at Road America - we definitely have our work cut out for us this weekend."
