Flying Lizard Announces Driver Lineup for Petit Le Mans; Final Countdown begins for 2008 ALMS Season Championship
September 22, 2008 -- Sonoma, Calif -- The final countdown for the 2008 ALMS championship has begun. Just two races remain of the 11-race season: Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta and the Monterey Sports Car Championships at Laguna Seca. The flagship race of the ALMS season, Petit Le Mans -- which runs 1000 miles (or 10 hours maximum) -- will be held on October 4. The 4-hour season finale at Laguna Seca will be held on October 18.
Heading into Petit Le Mans, Flying Lizard is in the lead in both the drivers and the team ALMS GT2 championships. Joerg Bergmeister and Wolf Henzler are twenty-eight points ahead of Dominik Farnbacher and Dirk Mueller of the No. 71 Tafel Racing Ferrari and forty-four points ahead of teammates Johannes van Overbeek and Patrick Pilet of the No. 46 Porsche, who are in third. The Flying Lizard team is thirty-five points ahead of Tafel Racing, in second. Fifty-five additional points are possible in the two upcoming races: a first-place finish is worth thirty points at Petit Le Mans, and twenty-five at Laguna Seca.
For Petit Le Mans, the Flying Lizard driver lineup will be as follows. In the No. 45 Porsche, guest driver Marc Lieb will team with Bergmeister and Henzler. The trio will look to reprise their season-opening win in GT2 at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring in March. van Overbeek and Pilet will team again in the No. 46 Porsche, and Seth Neiman, Darren Law and Lonnie Pechnik will drive the No. 44 Porsche.
