Flying Lizard Qualifies 3rd and 11th for Road America
August 15, 2009 - Elkhart Lake, Wisc. - Flying Lizard qualified 3rd and 11th in GT2 for Sunday's Time Warner Cable Road Race Showcase at Road America. In the No. 45, Bergmeister started out first in line of the GT2 pack, and set his fastest lap of 2:07.362 on this third lap of the session, four tenths of a second behind the polesitter, the No. 90 Rahal Letterman BMW. In the No. 44 Flying Lizard Porsche, Seth Neiman qualified 11th in class. Ideal racing conditions today made for some fast GT2 times - the top seven GT2 cars were within eight-tenths of a second of one another on the 4.048-mile track.Joerg commented on qualifying, "P3 was all we could do today. This track is all about power and straight line speed: we are running the lowest downforce we can just to keep up with the cars with bigger restrictors on the straights. But I think we should have a good car for the race, we need to work a little bit more in warmup to try to find the right balance for the race. Road America is definitely my favorite track in the U.S.: it has such a nice flow to it and is fun to drive. I've won here four times in my ALMS career and I'm looking forward to getting on track tomorrow."
Joerg Bergmeister and Patrick Long of the No. 45 Flying Lizard Porsche are coming off of five wins in a row and leading the GT2 championship, 37 points ahead of Jaime Melo and Pierre Kaffer of the No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari. In the No. 44 Flying Lizard Porsche, Darren Law will join Seth Neiman for the 2 hour and 45 minute race which gets the green flag at 2:05 pm CT on Sunday, August 16, 2009.
