Joerg Bergmeister Puts the No. 45 Flying Lizard Porsche on the GT2 Pole at Mid-Ohio

August 7, 2009 - Lexington, Ohio - Joerg Bergmeister put the No. 45 Flying Lizard Porsche on the GT2 pole for the Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio with a time of 1:21.022 and in the No. 44 Porsche, Seth Neiman qualified tenth in class. It's Bergmeister's second ALMS pole this year and his third including the 2009 24 Heures du Mans. He and teammate Patrick Long are leading the ALMS GT2 drivers' championship, they are 25 points ahead of Melo and Kaffer of the No. 62 Risi Ferrari and the team is 25 points ahead of Risi in team points. The duo is coming off of four wins in a row - St. Pete, Long Beach, Utah, and Lime Rock.

Bergmeister commented on the session, "We had a great qual today. In the last practice session, the top seven GT2 cars were within four-tenths of one another so we knew it would be a tough field. In qual, I think we had the fewest laps out there of the field. We waited for a break in traffic, so I got out later in the session. I didn't have the pit lane speed limiter on when I left the pits so I was a bit too quick in pit lane, and a stop and go penalty cost us another few minutes."

He continued, "When I got on track, I had a really good run. We made a change right before qualifying, and with new tires the car was really hooked up. We have a really competitive group out there tomorrow. Our biggest challenge tomorrow will be anticipating what the track will be like once the Indy Cars put some rubber down. We still have morning warmup to finish up. I'm really looking forward to the race tomorrow."

In the No. 44 Porsche, Darren Law will join Neiman for the race tomorrow. Law is doing double duty this weekend: he is driving at Watkins Glen this evening and will arrive at Mid-Ohio late Friday night. Because Law did not drive in an official practice session, the No. 44 will start from the back of the field in Saturday's race.
