Flying Lizard No. 45 Qualifies Sixth in GT2; No. 44 13th
September 25, 2009 - Braselton, Georgia - Patrick Long qualified the No. 45 Flying Lizard Porsche sixth in GT2 today for Petit Le Mans. In the No. 44 Flying Lizard Porsche, Seth Neiman qualified 13th. David Murry put the No. 40 Robertson Racing Ford on the GT2 pole. The top six qualifiers comprised four manufacturers -- Ford, Corvette, BMW, Porsche-from five teams.Long commented, "The car was strong right out of the box. Initially when I heard that we were sixth, I was disappointed, but the result--with new cars ahead of us and our main rivals behind us--made us relatively happy. We made a huge improvement since this morning. We are one of the few cars that picked up pace since the morning session, where many of the other cars lost time due to the hot conditions. We're confident that we'll have a solid racecar for tomorrow."
Petit Le Mans will get the green flag on Saturday, September 26 at 11:20 AM ET and will run 1000 miles or 10 hours, whichever comes first. For Petit, Marc Lieb will join Joerg Bergmeister and Long in the No. 45 Porsche, reprising the team's Sebring lineup. The drivers for the No. 44 Porsche will be Darren Law, Seth Neiman, and Johannes van Overbeek.
Two teams are in the running for the GT2 team and drivers' championships: Flying Lizard and Risi Competizione. Joerg Bergmeister and Patrick Long of the No. 45 Porsche lead the ALMS GT2 drivers' championships, 31 points ahead of Risi drivers Jaime Melo and Pierre Kaffer, and Flying Lizard leads the team championship, also by 31 points. The last two races offer a maximum of 55 points: 30 points at Petit and 25 at Laguna Seca. If the No. 45 finishes within one position of the No. 62 Risi Ferrari--either ahead or behind--Bergmeister, Long and the team will clinch both championships.
