Lizards Land at Mosport for Back-to-Back Race Weekends; Bergmeister and Long Hold GT Championship Lead
August 27, 2010 – Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada – Following Sunday's race at Road America, the Lizard squad headed directly to Mosport for testing and this weekend's Grand Prix of Mosport, which gets the green flag Sunday, August 29 at 3:05 pm ET.
In the No. 45 Flying Lizard Porsche, Joerg Bergmeister and Patrick Long will be battling to hold their lead in the GT drivers' championship. In the No. 44 Flying Lizard Porsche, Seth Neiman and Darren Law will team up again. Law is doing double duty this weekend: he will drive at both the Grand-am event in Montreal on Saturday and the ALMS race on Sunday at Mosport.
Patrick Long commented on the 2.459 mile, 10-turn road course: "Mosport is definitely one of the most challenging tracks on the ALMS schedule and also one of the most rewarding when you get it right. It's the fastest ALMS circuit that we run on; it is a technical track with tons of surface change that is very demanding on the driver mentally and tough on the car."
Following their second-place finish at Road America last week, Bergmeister and Long are now 18 points ahead of both Jaime Melo and Gianmaria Bruni (No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari) and Dirk Mueller and Joey Hand (No. 90 Rahal Letterman Racing BMW). The team is now in second place in the team championship points. There are just two races left in the nine-race season: 50 total possible points remain, with 20 points for first place at Mosport and 30 points for first at Petit Le Mans in October.
Long continued, "We are down to the last two rounds in the championship and the intensity is at its peak. We are focused on all three championships: driver, team and manufacturer. We know how hard we'll have to fight for every last point, down to the wire. The last few weeks have been a heads-down, flat-out effort from everyone on the team. It's what gives me the most confidence, knowing that the entire Lizard organization is fueled by the extreme competition."
