December 18, 2006–Sonoma, Calif.–Flying Lizard Motorsports is pleased to announce that Wolf Henzler and Johannes van Overbeek–teammates in the Flying Lizard No. 45 Porsche for 2006–were ranked first and second in the final 2006 Porsche Cup standings. Four Flying Lizard drivers ranked in the top eight: Darren Law and Seth Neiman, co-pilots of the team’s No. 44 Porsche, finished seventh and eighth, respectively, out of a field of 178 competitors.

We are pleased to have the continued support of customers like Flying Lizard as they continue to raise the bar for professional sports car racing in North America.”

Compiled by Porsche every year since 1970, the Porsche Cup standings rank the privateer Porsche drivers worldwide according to points earned from international and national championships, including the American Le Mans Series, the 24 Heures du Mans, the Le Mans Series, the Grand American Road Racing Championship, SCCA SPEED World Challenge, and the Daytona 24 Hour race. Porsche contributes more than 150,000 Euros annually as prize money to be shared among the top ranked drivers.

Henzler and van Overbeek received their awards last weekend at the annual Porsche party in Weissach, Germany. van Overbeek, in his third year piloting the No. 45 for the Flying Lizard squad, finished second in the ALMS GT2 drivers’ championship for 2006, having led in the championship for most of the 2006 season. Henzler finished fourth in the ALMS GT2 drivers’ championship.

Earlier this year, Flying Lizard announced its plans to compete in the 2007 ALMS season with two new 2007 Porsche 911 GT3 RSRs. The team expects to announce its 2007 driver lineup in the New Year.

Founded in 2003, the Sonoma, Calif-based Flying Lizard team is readying for its fourth season of sports car racing with the American Le Mans Series (ALMS). In 2007, the team will again field two Porsche 911 GT3 RSRs–the No. 44 and the No. 45–in the 12-race ALMS season.

The Flying Lizard squad has finished in the top three in the ALMS drivers’ and team championships in every season to date. In 2006, Johannes van Overbeek was second in the GT2 driver’s championship and the team finished third. In 2005, van Overbeek was third in the drivers’ championship and the team finished in third. In 2004, in their inaugural year, Johannes and the team finished in second place. Flying Lizard has completed two contests at the historic 24 Hueres du Mans, finishing fourth in GT2 in 2006 and third in 2005.
