January 03, 2007–Sonoma, Calif.–Flying Lizard Motorsports announced today the driver roster for the team’s 2007 American Le Mans Series competition. The team will field two new 2007 Porsche 911 GT3 RSRs (type 997) for the 12-race ALMS season, competing as the No. 44 and No. 45 in the GT2 class. In the No. 45 Porsche, Johannes van Overbeek, who finished second in the 2006 ALMS GT2 drivers’ championship and the 2006 Porsche Cup standings, will return for his fourth consecutive season with the team. van Overbeek’s co-driver will be Joerg Bergmeister. Joerg joins the Flying Lizard team after a remarkable 2006 season in which he won both his second consecutive ALMS GT2 drivers’ championship and the Grand-Am Daytona Prototype drivers’ championship. “We have known Joerg for so long that it is hard to believe this marks the first time he will drive as a Lizard,” said team principal and driver Seth Neiman. “We are counting on his experience and competitiveness to help drive the team and again exceed our past limits. All signs point to a fierce year in GT2 with new Porsche competitors, at least two Ferrari teams, development of the 911 GT3 RSR to its full potential, and an expanded schedule — it’s going to be fun.”

Neiman will drive the team’s No. 44 Porsche in 2007 — his fourth ALMS season — and will be joined by last season’s partners, Lonnie Pechnik and Darren Law.

Flying Lizard crew chief Tommy Sadler noted, “The new Porsches arrived at the shop late last week. It’s both a relief to have them here and a reality check: we have less than two weeks to prep before the cars head to Sebring for the ALMS Winter Test, which starts on January 22.”
