August 21, 2005 — Elkhart Lake, WI — The Flying Lizard Motorsports No. 45 and No. 44 Porsche 911 GT3 RSRs finished 3rd and 8th in GT2 in today’s Generac 500 at Road America race. This is the team’s fourth ALMS podium finish this year.

The first third of the race was eventful as the 24-car field battled for position, resulting in several cautions due to mechanical failures and on-track incidents. With Johannes van Overbeek at the wheel, the No. 45 took the GT2 lead early in the race and led for the first hour. Getting out of the Porsche after his stint, he said “It feels great to be competitive and once again run with the best. The crew has worked very hard to get the car where it is today.”

Lonnie Pechnik started in the No. 44. He added, “We had a very solid car for this race. The crew did some adjustments between this morning’s warmup and race start, which got us where we needed to be. It was a shame that I had to pit so early in the race to clean oil from the windshield, but overall I’m pleased our pace.”

Cautions continued throughout the race. With five minutes left in the 2 hour and 45 minute event, coming out of the final yellow Jon Fogarty was in the GT2 lead in the No. 45 and Seth Neiman was in 8th in the No. 44. Fogarty described the final minutes of the race, “I got held up in Turn 3 on the restart and Patrick Long in the No. 31 Petersen White Lightning car was able to get a run on me. In the final laps I started to feel strong vibrations in the right rear. I was very low on fuel and was preparing for a possible late pit stop. Luckily I was able to continue but I lost a position to the No. 23 Alex Job Porsche on the final lap. But the car is the best it’s been all year and I’m happy to be on the podium again.”

Up next for the Sonoma-based squad is the Grand Prix of Mosport, September 4, 2005 in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada.
