August 23, 2007 — Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada — The Flying Lizard Motorsports squad heads to the East Coast this week for two back to back races: the Grand Prix of Mosport on August 26 and the Detroit Sports Car Challenge on September 1. Mosport, located outside of Toronto in Ontario, Canada, is the only ALMS race run in Canada and will be round nine of the 12-race ALMS season. The Detroit event, held in conjunction with the IRL, is new to the ALMS schedule this year and will be the last of four street course events this seasion.

Johannes van Overbeek and Joerg Bergmeister will team again in the No. 45 Porsche for both Mosport and Detroit, looking to regain their lead in the ALMS drivers’ championship. The duo relinquished the lead last week to Mika Salo and Jaime Melo of the No. 62 Risi Ferrari after the No. 45’s disappointing fifth-place finish at Road America.

In the team’s No. 44 Porsche, Seth Neiman and Lonnie Pechnik will drive at Mosport, and Patrick Long, a Porsche factory driver, will join Darren Law for Detroit. Long and Law hope to reprise their successful race at Long Beach in April, in which they piloted the No. 44 to a second-place finish — the Porsche’s best finish so far this season.

“Back to back races are always challenging for teams and the fact that Mosport and Detroit are such different venues makes it even tougher,” said Eric Ingraham, team manager and strategist of the No. 44 Porsche. “Mosport is a fast 2.5 mile track with high speed corners and Detroit is a 2.1 mile street course. We have a lengthy prep week at Mosport with testing and lots of track time and a very short weekend at Detroit with very little track time before the race.”

Lizard Chief Strategist Thomas Blam added, “This is our fourth year at Mosport. We’ve definitely had mixed results here and only one podium finish. And Detroit is an unknown for the team: Darren and Johannes have driven here before but the Lizards have never raced at this venue. This is a critical point in the season: if we do well at these races we can stay in contention for the championship. If we don’t, even with our last two races of the year being higher points races, we’ll be hard put to regain that lost ground. We’ve got to stay focused on finishing as high as we can and staying flexible to be able to adjust quickly to the challenges of a street course at Detroit.”

The Grand Prix of Mosport will start at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday, August 26. The Detroit Sports Car Challenge will start at 3:15 p.m. ET on Saturday, September 1.
