In today’s 15-minute GTC qualifying session at Virginia International Raceway, Flying Lizard took the 3rd and 7th place positions in class. Spencer Pumpelly, who will be sharing the Venezuela / eSilicon No 45 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car with Nelson Canache Jr., turned in a 1:52.621 lap, just one hundredth of a second off of 2nd place and four tenths from pole. Dion von Moltke had qualifying duties in the PR Newswire / eSilicon No 44 car and completed a 1:53.507 lap, which will put Seth Neiman in the 7th place starting position on the grid.

Steve Conover, Chief Engineer: “The cars were pretty good in qualifying but we missed a bit on our tire pressure targets. Some cloud cover came over right before the session which caused the track temp to drop and caused us not to build enough hot tire pressure. So we struggled a bit with front grip and that cost both drivers a bit during that session. That said, the race setups are pretty similar between the two cars and we are confident that they will be fast for tomorrow’s race.”

The Oak Tree Grand Prix at Virginia International Raceway gets the green flag at 2:15pm ET on Saturday, October 5th. The race will be broadcast tape delayed in the United States on ESPN2 on Sunday, October 6th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm ET and live online on Saturday, October 5th on ESPN3.com and ALMS.com from 2:00pm to 5:15pm ET.
