August 2, 2007 — Sonoma, Calif.– Road America has been good to Porsches in GT2: they’ve won the ALMS race at this track every year since 2002. In fact, Joerg Bergmeister, who will pilot the Flying Lizard No. 45 Porsche here at next week’s Generac 500 at Road America with Johannes van Overbeek (the duo is leading the ALMS driver championship) has won this race four times in GT2.

With two consecutive wins under their belts, the Lizard squad is looking to keep a hold on their championship lead at this race. “Five races to go and three of them — Road America, Petit, and Laguna – are worth more points due to their length. Optimally, we would like to see a strong finish here for both the No. 45 and the No. 44 Porsches,” said chief strategist Thomas Blam. “It’s always a dangerous game to predict how cars will perform at any particular track. Road America could favor the Porsche over the Ferraris, but there a lot of factors at play: it’s a long circuit and a four-hour race, so fuel mileage and pit stop strategy, for example, will play a crucial role.”

Bergmeister added his perspective on the track, “Road America is my favorite U.S. circuit. It’s very quick with some great corners and elevation changes — almost like a small Nürburgring Nordschleife.”

“We’ve been on the podium here twice in three years, but we have yet to win this race,” added van Overbeek. “Last year we had a tough time here and this year, we expect the Ferraris to be as competitive as ever. At this point in the season, it’s so important to stay focused — we have to stay out of trouble and earn as many points as we can to keep our lead. Joerg and I are just 8 points ahead of Mika Salo and Jaime Melo and the team championship is even closer — we are just one point ahead of Risi.”

Darren Law will be back for this race with Seth Neiman in the No. 44 Porsche. Although Darren has only driven four of the seven ALMS races so far this year (sharing driving duties in the No. 44 with Lonnie Pechnik) he is currently fourth in the ALMS drivers’ championship, tied with Nic Joensson. Law said, “A bunch of us are flying in to Road America on Friday night from Watkins Glen (where I’m driving a Daytona Prototype) and we’ll just make it in time for Saturday morning warmup. The hardest part of the weekend will be moving between the two types of cars; it takes a few laps to make the transition. Because I’ll be in so late, Seth will be working solo on the setup of the No. 44. He’s got his work cut out for him but I’m confident we’ll have a great car by the time I get there.”
