March 5, 2007–Sonoma, Calif.–Flying Lizard Motorsports announced today the team’s full driver lineup for the American Le Mans Series season opener, the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. In the Flying Lizard No. 45 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, Johannes van Overbeek and Joerg Bergmeister will be joined by Porsche factory driver Marc Lieb. This year, the No. 45 trio is looking to best the team’s second place finish at Sebring in 2006 (No. 45 with van Overbeek, Lieb and Jon Fogarty). Darren Law, Seth Neiman and Lonnie Pechnik will share driving duties in the team’s No. 44 Porsche.

The twelve-hour endurance race, which begins at 10:00 am ET in Sebring, Florida on March 17, will be Lieb’s fourth race with the Lizards. In 2006, he finished 2nd in GT2 at Sebring, 3rd at Mosport with van Overbeek and Wolf Henzler, and 5th at the Petit Le Mans. In Lieb’s successful racing career he has been a two-time FIA-GT driving champion (in 2003 N-GT and 2005 GT2), two-time LMES GT2 champion (in 2005 and 2006) and 2002 Porsche Carrera Cup winner. Additionally, Marc has class wins at the 24 Heures du Mans (GT2 in 2005), the Rolex 24 at Daytona (SGS in 2004) and an overall win at the 24 Hours of Spa in 2005.

van Overbeek is looking forward to hitting the track for the first race of the year. “It will be great to have Marc back with us at Sebring. Joerg, Marc and I all know one another’s styles fairly well by now and we like driving together. Starting the season at Sebring is always an eye-opener. This race is a tough one on drivers, cars and crew; add a new car to the mix and it’s going to be quite a weekend!”

The California-based team took delivery of two new 2007 Porsche 911 GT3 RSRs over the winter holidays. Since then, they’ve been focused on preparing for the 2007 12-race ALMS season, which many believe will bring the most competitive GT2 field in ALMS history. Team manager Eric Ingraham shared his perspective, “There’s a full GT2 field at Sebring and we expect fierce competition: at least four Ferraris, several strong new Porsche teams, and three Panoz entries. The Porsche teams will still be getting used to the new cars, which are quite different from the 996-based Porsches. The 55th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring is March 17 at Sebring International Raceway. The green flag will fall shortly after 10 a.m. with SPEED TV providing live coverage.
