August 28, 2012 – Baltimore, Maryland – The Flying Lizard squad returns to the streets of Baltimore this week for the second running of the Baltimore Sports Car Challenge. The eighth event on the ALMS 10-race schedule, this weekend’s 2-hour street race gets the green flag Saturday, Sept 1 at 4:30 pm Eastern Time. The driver lineup is Joerg Bergmeister and Patrick Long in the No. 45 Flying Lizard Porsche 911 GT3 RSR and Marco Holzer and Seth Neiman in the No. 44.

The Lizards head into the race weekend following their third podium of the season at Road America two weeks ago. Bergmeister and Long are now sixth in the 2012 ALMS GT drivers’ championship with 73 points. Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner of the No. 4 Corvette lead with 108 points. The Lizards are third in the team championship with 84 points; Corvette Racing leads with 129 points. There are 66 points possible left in the season.

Flying Lizard chief engineer Craig Watkins said, “As with every street circuit, we have limited track time here at Baltimore: just two practice sessions, then qualifying. On the engineering side, we have to be very efficient during setup and interpret the drivers’ feedback quickly to make the most of every second on track. Luckily, we’ve run enough street circuits now that we have a good idea what the cars will want in terms of camber, aero settings, etc.”

Watkins added, “Patrick, Joerg and Seth all know the course but it’s Marco’s first time racing here. The track layout has changed: the chicane on the front straight has been removed and the turns before pit lane have been reconfigured. It should be a bit less technical because of those changes and have a more continuous flow, with faster lap times. Last year the track had some very big bumps which caused us some problems. We expect that those issues will be resolved this year and we’ll have a smoother circuit. Last year’s race was an incredible event for the fans – we’re really looking forward to coming back to Baltimore.”

The Baltimore Sports Car Challenge gets the green flag at 4:30 pm ET Saturday September 1, 2012. Qualifying is broadcast live on EPSN2 and ALMS.com. The race will be broadcast live on ESPN3.com and ALMS.com and tape-delayed on ABC on Sunday, Sept. 2, starting at noon ET. The race will also be broadcast live in Europe on MotorsTV, in Latin America/Middle East on Fox and in Canada on Sports Net.
