No. 45 Fifth and No. 44 Fourteenth in Petit Le Mans GT Qualifying
No. 45 Fifth and No. 44 Fourteenth in Petit Le Mans GT Qualifying
September 30, 2011 – Braselton, Georgia – Joerg Bergmeister set the fifth fastest time in GT qualifying today for the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta with a time of 1:19.511. In the No. 45 Flying Lizard Porsche Darren Law was fourteenth with a time of 1:21.090. Gianmaria Bruni of the No. 51 AF Corse Ferrari is on the GT pole (1:18.699).
Bergmeister commented on the session, “I’m happy with the result. This is the fastest lap time we’ve ever done here at Road Atlanta. Tomorrow is going to be an extremely challenging race. In all of the sessions so far this week it’s been impossible to get a clear lap, there is so much traffic. For the race, we just have to stay out of trouble and keep ourselves in a good position for a strong finish.”
Law added, “Quali was not what we had hoped for. We made a suspension adjustment before the session that turned out to be the wrong direction, but we know where we need to go now and I’m confident we’ll have a solid car tomorrow. As Joerg said, it’s really hectic on the track. There is a big difference in speed among the different cars and classes. At every corner we have to be prepared for what we are coming up on and also watch our mirrors to make sure something faster isn’t on us. As we saw in practice this week – with several big accidents – it’s certain to be a race of attrition tomorrow.”
The ALMS flagship race gets the green flag on Saturday, October 1 at 11:30 am ET; the race runs a maximum of 1000 miles or 10 hours.
