In his first weekend of competition, Flying Lizard Motorsports customer Thomas Meyerhoffer earned a third place finish at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in the Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA Championship. The double header event hosted Rounds 5 and 6 of the 2016 championship, with Meyerhoffer finishing in the top five for both races in the Silver Masters class.

Meyerhoffer began his motorsports journey at the Porsche Sport Driving School in Birmingham, Alabama last year, and from there became addicted. Once joining Flying Lizard Motorsports, Johannes van Overbeek was brought on as driver coach, offering expertise in Meyerhoffer’s development of his race craft.

In his debut weekend, Meyerhoffer impressively ran two trouble free races in his No. 5 Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport, the first race events of his career. Round 5 proved to be filled with heavy competition, bringing out several full course cautions. Round 6 offered more green flag racing, allowing the new driver to put his skills to the test. Throughout the weekend, the new Flying Lizard Motorsports customer continued to improve his lap times, impressively steering clear of any on track drama to earn two top five finishes.

Meyerhoffer will continue his development at Rounds 9 & 10 of the championship at Sonoma raceway July 2-3.

This was such a great weekend for both Flying Lizard Motorsports and our new customer Thomas Meyerhoffer. When he decided to get into racing with the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport we helped to put together a proper development program for him. The Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy series provided a great racing venue with a lot of track time. I am really proud of how well Thomas did this past weekend. It was his first event and not only did he drop lap times significantly but he got to a podium position in the second race. It is a testament to our team, his driving coach Johannes Van Overbeek, and the effort we put forth in testing at our home track at Sonoma Raceway. We hope to bring on a few more customers for this program and look forward to more great races.
